Thomas H. Schmitz has been practising as an attorney since 1998 and advises German and international clients across a broad range of intellectual property matters. His practice focuses in particular on trademarks, designs, unfair competition, and copyright law.

A highly experienced litigator, Thomas regularly represents clients in complex disputes, with a particular focus on trademark infringement and plagiarism cases. He has coordinated numerous cross-border and multi-jurisdictional proceedings and has been involved in a number of groundbreaking cases that have contributed to shaping legal developments in the field of intellectual property.

In addition to contentious matters, Thomas advises clients on the development of advertising and marketing strategies, product development, and the protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights. He also drafts and negotiates licence and cooperation agreements and advises on IP-intensive transactions.

Thomas specialised in intellectual property law during his studies at the Universities of Cologne and Lausanne and further developed this expertise in private practice and as in-house counsel at a major telecommunications company. He also shares his knowledge as a lecturer at Hagen Law School and Maastricht University.
